ARTEMIS
Artemis is the goddess of the hunt, the moon and childbirth. Artemis is the child of Zeus, king of gods, and Leto. Artemis is twins with Apollo, god of music and the sun. Artemis is an incredibly skilled archer and so she likes to spend her time hunting beasts and adventuring the woods. Artemis is a maiden goddess and she has absolutely no interest in men. Artemis has a following of sea nymphs, wood nymphs, demi-gods and mortals, all of whom are girls who take vows to be maidens forever. Although Artemis is goddess of the hunt she loves animals. Most of the time Artemis doesn’t kill the animal unless it’s absolutely necessary or if it's a dangerous beast that hurts people. Artemis has a chariot pulled by deer. The signs used to represent Artemis are a moon, a deer and a bow and arrow. Artemis is quiet and wise and does not like to bring attention to herself.
Once there was a queen named Niobe. Niobe’s town held a celebration for Leto, who was a Titan that gave birth to the twin gods and goddesses Apollo and Artemis. Niobe envied this and so she bragged that she had fourteen children and Leto only had two so they should celebrate her instead. Apollo and Artemis heard about the disrespect toward their mother and they would not let Niobe go unpunished. Apollo shot down all seven of Niobe's sons with his bow and arrows and Artemis shot all her daughters. Niobe was devastated and she went up to a mountain and she prayed to the gods to end her pain. Different stories say different things but one of the gods took pity on her and turned her to stone and to this day the stone is still there and many people say it does still resemble her crying. I think this story shows that it’s not smart to disrespect the gods (or their mothers) or you will face the consequences.
